Our 1915 Prairie-style house had one small bathroom that had suffered a bad DIY remodeling several decades ago and had developed a leak into the kitchen ceiling below. The bathroom needed a complete overhaul, including new plumbing and wiring, as well opening a window that had been partially covered in the previous remodel. Other areas that needed substantial repair included a water closet with a single toilet on the basement landing, tiling in the kitchen, a microwave installation, ceiling cracks in the living room and dining room, chipped wall paint in hallways, the aforementioned kitchen ceiling leak, and replacement of outdated wiring and plumbing in the basement. It was a sprawling remodel-and-repair job.

JDL came highly recommended and did not disappoint. They patiently spent a lot of time with us up front on the overall design of the project, from the attic to the basement. They laid out the cost of the project, including options, in great detail. The price wasn't cheap, but it was fair, and we feel we got more than our money's worth. These folks are professionals.

Once JDL started the actual work, we were impressed with the overall project management, the exacting craftsmanship of both their own employees and the subcontractors, and the way they treated our house as respectfully as they would have treated their own. They cleaned up after themselves every single day, communicated about their progress regularly and made all significant decisions in consultation with us. The result is a bright, modern bathroom that nevertheless blends in perfectly with the 1915 style of the house.

I can only say wonderful things about JDL Construction.
When our garage/studio had problems being approved by the county, they stuck with us through three revisions. When we had to readjust our projected budget downward due to money lost to an incompetent planner, they worked to complete the project with fewer dollars. We are extremely happy with the result.

Hire JDL if you can. They did excellent work and stayed focused and on top of our project through all the stages of a nine month remodel. Their process is completely transparent and there was never a question as to their honesty or the integrity of their work. From the bidding process through the completion of the final punch list, JDL distinguished themselves as the best of professionals. A little shout out to JDL Development. We are about to embark on our third and largest home renovation project with these guys. About a year ago we did a small kitchen update which included a faucet. I purchased one that was sort of expensive in my opinion and was completely happy with the work that was done on the kitchen, except for the faucet. The water pressure was terrible. The plumber looked at it and couldn't figure out how to remove whatever restrictors without breaking it. I resigned myself to the thought that it was probably our pipes or I had chosen a bad faucet. As we near our basement finishing project I told Dave at JDL that I was still unhappy with the faucet, so John looked at it and worked on it again. Again he was afraid to break it and we decided maybe it should move to the basement bar and we would get a new faucet for the kitchen. Today, though, Dave at JDL told me he would be at the house at 10, and I said ok. He snuck in while I was gone after having called the faucet manufacturer, and took out whatever part was restricting the water flow. And I came home and turned on my faucet and it was like magic! This is a year later, and they are still trying to make us happy with the work they did. This is why we will always work with JDL. Professional, thorough, and client service focused!

Also - we have been happy with all of the work these guys have done for us so far, which includes refacing our fireplace, built in drawers, built in cabinets, gas fireplace installation, kitchen counters, sink, faucet, lighting, etc... They are very thorough and make sure that you are happy with the work. They also come in at or under budget, because they give very detailed bids and do change orders along the way, so no one is out of the loop as far as cost. Highly recommend!

I have had Joe Lyon (owner) helping me on various projects since 1990! His staff and personal involvement goes unmatched. He is reasonable and sensible in approaching any project. I would only do business with JDL when it comes to remodeling. As new construction has not been part of the mix, I would extend my confidence and have Joe and JDL take charge of that too!
