As we look forward to 2019 and beyond, it is critical that we continue to support our PAC, Oregonians for Affordable Housing, and prepare for the 2020 election cycle. The biggest way our members contribute to the PAC is through the building of a PAC house. This is a house that a builder member builds with financing through the HBA, and all of the proceeds, after hard costs, go directly to the PAC. During previous elections we have accomplished a great deal through the fundraising achieved by the PAC house and the support of member builders. We are now hoping to double our resources though the building of an “election off year” PAC house so that we can be sure we have the resources to back our candidates in the upcoming year. There will be many critical races ranging from Metro council, to Mayors and County Commissioners who all determine policies regarding the residential building industry. Jeff Fish and Justin Wood at Fish Construction NW have been extremely generous over the years and built multiple PAC Houses – and now we’re very thankful that Gordon Root with Stafford Land Company who volunteered to take that project on for the 2018 elections. While we are extremely appreciative of Stafford Homes & Land, and especially Fish Construction NW, and their leadership in building PAC houses, our PAC Committee Chair for 2019, Desi Kurtz, is actively looking for contractors and others to donate labor and materials for a home in the coming year.
