The new year saw five cities in the Portland metro region express their intent to Metro to pursue Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) expansions. Hillsboro, Beaverton, King City, Sherwood and Wilsonville all submitted letters of interest for potential expansions by the December 31 deadline. The total gross acreage of these proposals is approximately 2,800 acres with an estimated 14,000 housing units projected. Metro Council will ultimately be making a policy determination on potential expansions later this year, following the release of the 2018 Urban Growth Report this summer. The HBA and its team have been, and will continue to be, actively engaged with our municipal partners, Metro and other stakeholders on this key issue for the region.
