The City of Sherwood held a public meeting on Tuesday, April 17th to discuss the fate of its potential Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) ask before Metro Council. HBA has been working to communicate with the different stakeholders in this debate to work through these issues and encourage the City to not withdraw their UBG ask. However, on Tuesday the Council voted to withdraw their UGB ask in a 7-0 vote. While HBA doesn’t generally advocate for or against specific UGB expansion requests, the issue in Sherwood merited special attention due to the factors involved. The City had previously decided to submit for an expansion request as part of Metro’s 2018 UGB review process. However, local politics, misinformation on City control, and the opposition of the School District turned the tide, as did a change in the City Council and Mayor over the last six months.
