Metro Council is asking for feedback on the four Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) expansion proposals from Beaverton, Hillsboro, King City and Wilsonville. Metro has created a survey where you can comment on each city’s proposed UGB expansion (Link: Metro UGB Expansion Proposals Survey). The HBA encourages its members to participate in the survey and provide positive, meaningful feedback on these proposals. The four proposals total an expansion of more than 2,100 gross acres with the potential to yield nearly 10,000 housing units in the region over the next ten years. Oregon has underbuilt its housing supply by 155,000 units over the past 15 years. To catch up, it needs to build at least 30,000 units per year over the next 20 years, up from 17,000 per year today. As part of the UGB request process, each city was asked to show how their proposal addresses housing need, feasibility, and increased supply of diverse and affordable housing, which directly aligns with the HBA’s goal to provide an array of housing options in the region. The survey asks you to rank a list of factors considered by Metro in the expansion process, and review and provide comments on each city’s proposal. As you know, we need buildable land and housing of all sizes, types and prices to help address our housing crisis. More information on how to provide comment to Metro can be found here: https://www.oregonmetro.gov/public-projects/2018-growth-management-decision/city-proposals. You can follow this link directly to the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ugb_expansion_proposals, or submit comments by email to 2040@oregonmetro.gov or phone at 503-797-1562.
