The HBA’s Government Affairs Committee has continued to conduct candidate interviews to make endorsement decisions for the November election. Recently, another series of interviews was conducted, focusing on the region’s Mayoral races and bond campaigns as well as some local city races. Additionally, a joint meeting of the HBA Board and the Government Affairs Committee was held to address two critical items: the Metro Affordable Housing Bond and the Washington County Commission Chair race. The Government Affairs Committee has finalized the HBA’s general election candidate endorsements. The 2018 election season is shaping up to be imporant for our industry. The Government Affairs Committee identified key races in the spring primary elections and conducted candidate interviews to select and make initial endorsement decisions. While some races were concluded after the primary, not all of the races had an outright winner. Some surprising primary race outcomes meant more work was to be done moving towards the November general election, where the top two candidates will appear on the ballot. The following is a summary of the HBA’s endorsements for the 2018 General Election. These endorsements were made following the Government Affairs Committee's process of identifying key races, conducting candidate interviews and voting on which candidate to support as an organization. We encourage our members to lend their support to both the endorsed candidates and ballot measure.
