At the second Wilsonville Equitable Housing Strategic Task Force meeting, HBA advanced a number of potential pro-housing policies including SDC reform, property tax abatement, revising requirements and policies for master planning efforts in the Frog Pond East and South areas, incentives for space-efficient housing such as cottage clusters, and outreach to both affordable and market-rate housing developers. The recommendations followed the task force kick-off last month, when HBA first offered pro-housing tools for discussion and Planning Commission and City Council consideration. The Planning Commission will begin deliberation on the task force’s prioritized strategies later this month and the task force will reconvene based on their direction. Wilsonville faces key housing challenges including expanding opportunities for rent-burdened tenants and planning for their urban reserve areas. Wilsonville’s recent Metro and DLCD-approved UGB expansion will help address the City’s housing needs, but the City must also consider other mechanisms to reduce housing costs. HBA is honored to serve on this important housing task force and continues to work with City Council liaison Ben West and other community members to advance housing affordability and housing choice.
