This week, HBA members joined City of Happy Valley staff to work jointly on construction-related site security. They continued a conversation that started with a July 2019 work session in which the City Council considered ways to decrease criminal activity in and around construction sites, and directed staff to work with the development community on solutions for site-related crimes. HBA worked diligently with city staff to gather industry stakeholders and work toward mutually supported and beneficial solutions. Stakeholders reviewed crime data and discussed how the city currently handles trespassing violations. Additionally, they explored low-cost solutions such as creating a public hotline and reward program to capture thieves and regain stolen items, establishing a communication network amongst the development community to publicize crime information and best practices, and enhancing communication with neighborhood associations and watch programs. The meeting elicited reasonable, win-win prevention solutions that staff will share as part of their report back to the City Council later this month.
