At HBA’s monthly Portland Building and Urban Development Council meeting, Mayor Ted Wheeler updated members on several areas, including the Residential Infill Project (RIP), strategies for addressing homelessness in the city, and the city budget. He discussed the potential impacts of budget cuts to the Bureau of Development Services, and noted the value of moving to online permitting and inspections. The Mayor discussed his desire for the city to focus on regionally significant development and the implementation of projects like RIP and Better Housing by Design as the region continues to grow. Erin Mick, Development Services Program Manager with the Portland Water Bureau presented on the proposed Title 21 code changes. Erin gave an overview of the changes and asked for member feedback on several items, including Section 21.12.070, which could have significant impacts to the development and cost of middle housing.
