Last month, Molalla unanimously approved changes to its duplex lot development standards and zoning code pursuant to House Bill 2001 for middle housing. The changes allow duplexes on all residential lots that allow for the development of a single dwelling detached home. Importantly, in addition to the state-required attached duplexes, the amendments allow for detached duplexes on the same lots, offering greater flexibility and promoting retention of existing housing stock while meeting demand for detached housing. With a population of 9,910, Molalla is projected to surpass the 10,000 residents mark this year, becoming a medium sized city under HB2001 statute. Following its HB2001 work, Molalla is preparing for its next Housing Needs Analysis and Housing Production Strategy requirements pursuant to House Bill 2003.
