HBA members Stafford Homes & Land and Fish Construction NW were recognized at the recent Builders Ball for their contribution to our political action committee (PAC), Oregonians for Affordable Housing (OFAH) through the building of a PAC House. The PAC house is built by a member leader with support from their subcontractors and suppliers, and the sale of the home is the single biggest contributor to OFAH each year. Stafford Homes & Land was recognized for their leadership in building the PAC house to contribute $52,000 to OFAH in 2018. Fish Construction NW was recognized for their continued support of this program, building of eight PAC houses over 12 years and contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars to OFAH and the HBA’s political advocacy efforts. 2018 saw some significant changes in the political landscape at the federal, state and local levels. Our PAC, OFAH, is critically important to the HBA’s ability to affect government’s impact on housing, and critically important to our members who plan, design, loan, insure, protect, build, supply, landscape, furnish or sell housing. The PAC helps all of those who hold an important role in providing homes in our region. Each election cycle, the funds contributed to OFAH help to get housing friendly candidates elected, and allows the HBA to support and build relationships with local officials. The PAC remains an essential tools in the HBA’s advocacy efforts, policy engagement and strengthening of regional partnerships. As we look forward to 2019 and beyond, it is critical that we continue to support the PAC and prepare for the 2020 election cycle. While we are extremely appreciative of Stafford Homes & Land, and especially Fish Construction NW, and their leadership in building PAC houses, our PAC Committee Chair for 2019, Desi Kurtz, is actively looking for contractors and others to donate labor and materials for a home in the coming year. If you would like to support the PAC financially or through other donations to the PAC house please contact James Adkins at jamesa@hbapdx.org.
