HBA recently submitted a letter of opposition to a resolution offered by Mayor Mark Gamba that would start the process of code change to ban natural gas by February 5, 2024. While HBA supports the city’s efforts to address climate change and the substantial work, that has gone into those efforts over recent years, HBA believes that a mixed energy base is integral to a resilient and cost-effective energy grid. HBA supports a balanced approach, recognizing all forms of transitional and renewable energy, including renewable hydrogen and natural gas, solar, etc., as part of the solution. The market expects and often demands gas in new homes, and with the advances in renewable natural gas and hydrogen technologies, it is possible and becoming more cost effective to provide a sustainable, climate-friendly solution to the end user.
