North Plains recently released an updated SDC increase plan that substantially reduces the originally proposed increases in a report by FCS Group released in October 2021. Although the original proposal included a total increase of $11,557, the revised draft envisions an increase of only $5,295. If enacted as originally proposed, 11,834 families in the Portland Metropolitan area would have been priced out of the opportunity to live in North Plains. However, that cost burden has been significantly reduced through city staff, member, and HBA communications and efforts. Although still substantial, HBA understands the need for SDCs to offset a fair portion if infrastructure needs due to new development and has and will continue to be supportive of reasonable SDCs where needed. Good working relationships with city staff and member engagement are integral to finding reasonable solutions to address city needs while being cognizant of the housing supply and price crisis our region finds itself in.
