As a result of the Federal Communications Commission recent ruling on 5G/small wireless facilities deployment, the Mid-County Street Lighting District is currently discussing a proposed small wireless facility standards and agreement with a third-party franchise cellular service provider. The district, governed by the Board of Multnomah County Commissioners, and managed by the County’s Department of Community Services, provides service to Maywood Park, Troutdale, Fairview and certain unincorporated areas of Multnomah County. The HBA commends the work by the lighting district staff and county board to generate appropriate standards for aesthetics, safety and work in the right-of-way, such that current and future homeowners will not be unduly impacted. The HBA will continue to engage with staff and the county on proposed small wireless facility standards to ensure housing development and construction is not unduly impacted. Most recently, on May 23, 2019, the county also approved a $150,000 budget request for a municipal broadband feasibility study, with implications for small wireless facilities and connectivity throughout the entire county.
