On June 25, 2019 President Trump signed an executive order establishing the White House Council on Eliminating Barriers to Affordable Housing Development. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson chairs the Council, which consists of members from across eight federal agencies. The Council will engage State, local, and tribal leaders and is tasked with identifying and removing obstacles that impede the development of new affordable housing. Following a fact finding process, the Council will recommend ways to reduce statutory, regulatory, and administrative burdens at all levels of government. National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Chairman Greg Ugalde attended the White House signing ceremony and lauded the White House’s efforts to promote housing affordability.
