Last month, Metro voted to award $2,428,000 in grant funding under the 2019 construction excise tax (CET) 2040 Planning and Development Grants Program. The award consisted of $1,343,000 to fund planning in new urban areas, including $693,000 for Beaverton's Cooper Mountain Community Plan, $350,000 to King City for the King City Master Plan and $300,000 for Tigard’s concept planning in the River Terrace Urban Reserve area. These dollars represent critical resources to help plan urban reserve areas and are available to all cities interested in planning for future growth. The HBA supported these grant applications and is pleased that Metro continues to dedicate resources to help cities meet their housing needs through smart planning. With housing costs continuing to increase, and Oregon short over 155,000 homes, it is critical that we provide new housing in the Portland region. We will continue to advocate for CET grant dollars to support concept and comprehensive planning in new urban areas and congratulate our friends in Beaverton, King City, and Tigard for their 2040 Planning and Development Grants.
