This week, the Wilsonville City Council adopted via resolution its Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, which focuses on housing affordability, choice and access to amenities. In a letter to the Wilsonville City Council this week, HBA supported four specific elements of the plan. As a member of the plan’s task force during its nearly year-long stakeholder engagement, HBA highlighted the devastating impacts of Oregon’s historic exclusionary housing policies, which have negatively impacted Black and other marginalized communities. HBA commends the city for addressing equity gaps in its community, and, in conjunction with the Wilsonville Alliance for Inclusive Communities and the Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce, supported the planning commission’s recommendation to form an equity body charged with evaluating all city policies. Additionally, HBA encouraged swift implementation of tax abatement programs for both homebuyer and mixed-used vertical housing opportunities, a variety of lot sizes to support middle housing in both existing and urban growth expansion areas, and system development charge reform.
