Several HBA members received letters recently from a company called Savannah IP. The letters assert Savannah’s claims to a federal patent on a specific dry-out process for homes under construction. The letters also claim that Savannah IP believes the recipient builder or company is violating its claim, although it doesn’t provide any additional details or information to support that assertion. This issue came up originally back in 2014-15. HBA provided guidance to our members on the issue, working with our state and national associations to coordinate efforts and information. We also worked with our state association (OHBA) to pass anti-patent trolling legislation back in 2015 which created guard rails around patent infringement claims. For more information and to see the communication and guidance HBA provided a couple of weeks ago via email to our builder members, click here.
