After encouragement and education by OHBA and other affected industry representatives, the Oregon Building Codes Division issued a technical bulletin outlining the process by which local building officials can allow project progress or completion even though material shortages or delays may prevent traditional inspections. Whether the material and supply delay is impacting project progress and timing, or the completion of a rough, cover or final inspection, clear documentation remains a useful path for reflecting site-specific scenarios for the project record. Where acceptable to the local building official, builders may be able to submit formal letters detailing a narrative of the supply chain challenges impacting the local project(s). HBA encourages builders to work with their local building officials, through their discretionary authority, to find ways to facilitate timely project progression or completion.
