On November 17th, NW Natural released a report “Vision 2050: Destination Zero” detailing their goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050. The report offers an analysis of future scenarios both on the supply and demand side with consideration of new technologies, carbon offsets and renewable gas, hydrogen, and carbon capture. HBA is excited to see a concrete roadmap for a continued and environmentally sustainable supply of natural gas to the market, specifically residential consumers. Natural gas heating and appliances continues to be a consumer driven demand in new homes and OHBA, along with HBA, have continued to educate policy makers on the need for a resilient, diverse and sustainable energy system that also meets market expectations. This position was included in a letter submitted by HBA during the state Climate Protection Program rulemaking process in October. HBA recognizes the importance of, and continues to advocate for, a broad mix of energy solutions to address the needs and wants of our residential customers. Through educational opportunities and close advocacy coordination, HBA is able to promote our energy partners NW Natural and PGE at the local and state level while speaking to the residential housing market and its current and future needs.
